Grow Up
So there I am in the Auction House in Stormwind, scanning (new version of Auctioneer is out of beta! Yay!). I see someone yelling--not on the general channel, but actually yelling--"y wont any1 help me". This in itself was typical idiot crap, but what really put the topper on it was the name: Pooflicker.
I wish I were kidding.
I sent him a tell saying, "Maybe it's because you're on an RP server with the name 'Pooflicker'." I was honestly expecting a response along the lines of "stfu you noob" or "ur name sux 2" or whatever, but instead he said, "wat does rp mean neway?" I kinda blinked, but decided this was ignorance rather than stupidity (or philosophy) and, since ignorance should be treated whenever possible, replied, "It means 'roleplay'. All our names are supposed to be 'in character' and yours kinda isn't."
Reply: "ooooooooo. my friend picked it" "Well, maybe you should have a talk with your friend," I say. "its just 4 fun," he replies. "You're not going to have as much fun if no one will play with you." "thats true". There was a long pause, and I thought it was over, then he asks, "will u help me?"
I cringed a bit, but it's not a good idea to give newbies the impression that everyone on the server is a jerk so I asked what he needed help with and said I was only 16th level. He was 9th, he said, so it seemed like I should be able to help him out before the evening's scheduled Deadmines run.
Turns out his quest was around the gnolls in northwestern Elwynn Forest. It took a moment for me to figure this out, since he left Stormwind by running to the flightpoint and jumping into the moat. Whatever. Once we got to the gnolls, however, he proceeded to head for the object of his quest by going straight through the clusters of gnoll camps, with no attempt to limit his aggro or sneak or whatever. He was collecting seven and eight gnolls at a time. I ran myself out of mana trying to keep him alive, rezzed him twice, and then died myself. At this point I bailed, citing needing to get ready for the guild instance run (did I mention he asked if he could join the guild?).
It's not that I hate new players. But sometimes I just don't have the energy, you know? He wasn't rude, unless you count the name and bad typing as rude, but I play WoW because it's fun. I am not a good teacher, and teaching is not fun for me.
As a consolation, the Iron Dragon webpage appears to be back up. Maybe this means I'll get to play it soon...
