In my running around in Vanguard over the last few days, I discovered some cool stuff--at least, I think it's cool.
Kojan is one of the three continents, and is an archipelago. One of the islands, the starting area of the orcs (who I really don't like, I may note), is called Martok1, and is shaped kind of like an upside-down question mark ¿, only without the dot. There are a number of largish islands near enough to the main one that it doesn't take a prohibitively long time to swim there, if you're curious, and since one of the things I like about the game is the scenery, I've been swimming.
My most recent expedition was to the island that's at the southeast "corner" of Martok. On coming ashore, I discovered a flat, bar, brown field with a signpost of some sort in the middle of it; when I read the sign, I discovered to my excitement that it was a plot of land that players can buy and build things on. This particular plot cost something like 50 platinum, though, and since I'm currently delighted to have more than 5 gold to my name2 (100 g per p, I note), it's gonna be a while before I have that kind of cash.
Some of the other plots--even some with very nice views--are much more reasonable, like a few that are 10g each. That I might be able to swing; even if I can't build anything just yet I can at least have my claim in. Fun stuff...
1: I believe it's also the northernmost significant island.
2: Also, I'm delighted that I can actually make a profit crafting--so far, my 16-slot bags are selling like hotcakes and they're utterly trivial to make at this point.
