Sell!

posted Tuesday, 20 November 2007

So remember how I said a week or so ago that my Google Page Rank had suddenly dropped for no reason I could perceive?  I thought it might be because I'd added my blog to Ravelry.

Well, it turns out that had nothing to do with it (so I can put that link back in, yay).  It's because Google has decided that anyone who does paid links of any kind on their pages gets a PR of 0.  Unless you do (only) AdSense...which Google runs.

Yeah.  If you're trying to make money off your website/blog in any way that Google doesn't control, they're making it harder for you; most of the money-making services use PR to determine if your site is important enough, so a low PR kills your earning potential (Frex, I went from about 150 opps on PPP to...4).

So I'll tell you what.  I don't usually do financial advice, but I've got something today: sell Google stock.  Because, much though I generally approve of their social sensibilities, in this case they're being assholes.
