In an attempt to overcome the winter blues1 that I get every year, I've got me a nice full-spectrum light on my desk. It's only a 60-watt, but as it mimics the light of the sun it looks a heck of a lot brighter than you'd expect (and it makes me aware of just how yellow the light really is in here). I think I need to bring an extension cord from home so I can hang it somewhere above eye level, but for today I just have it sitting behind a piece of paper as a shade.
If I understand how this works, all I have to worry about is getting the photons into my eyes somehow, so this should be adequate, especially as I spend at least six hours at this desk on any average workday; normally light therapy is for more like ninety minutes a day, so I'm making up for dimished intensity with greater length of exposure.
Also I'm going to try taking SAM-e. I know of at least one person willing to testify that it worked for him, spectacularly well. I am sick of being tired and down all the time...
1: Otherwise known as what appears to be a mild case of Seasonal Affective Disorder, and even if it isn't is probably amenable to a similar fix.
