Geological Processes

posted Monday, 26 November 2007

My mother's house, which is about 60 years old, has a patio out back.  Unfortunately, said patio causes the water which rolls down the hill when it rains to end up in her basement, because the edge of the patio is about two feet from the foundation.

Or rather, it was; a few weeks ago they tore up a strip of the patio to make it thinner, thus further from the house, and used the flagstone to floor the new porch.  Which is nice, but not the cool part.

The cool part is that the flagstones were laid over sand, which has become sandstone.  Mum kept a chunk of the stone to show off.  One doesn't think of geological processes happening in the course of a human lifetime, but there it is.
