In Her Web She Still Delights

Pattern Ideas

I got my Twining Ivy submission back from Interweave Knits, along with a very nice form rejection letter.  Guess I'm just going to have to make one up for myself...

On the other hand, this brings an idea to mind.  There are lots of people who sell patterns from their blogs these days; the ubiquity of PayPal and the general improvement of web technology make this sort of thing, if not easy, at least straightforward to set up and run.  And I do have a couple of ideas floating around; there's Twining Ivy, and the Goth Baby sweater, and (for a change of pace) the Conan Sampler I've been pondering for years.

Twining Ivy, as I think I've mentioned, would be brown with a vine pattern in green; fairly close-fitting, with a v-neck; bell sleeves.  I swatched it in alpaca, but that might end up being too warm; it all depends on being able to find another sport-weight yarn in colors I like at a price I can afford.

Goth Baby is going to be black and lace, sized for somewhere in the newborn-1 year range.  With either silver or bone buttons.

The Conan Sampler requires a bit more explaination.  Perhaps you've seen the Governator's early movie Conan the Barbarian.  This is not precisely great cinema, but I've always had a great fondness for it.  Early in the film, the title character is asked, "What is best in life?"  He responds, "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women."1  For some reason, I have a strong desire to do this up in the style of an eighteenth-century sampler.  Such things often included little sayings or prayers, and I think it would be hilarious to have the contrast between all the needlework and what the words actually say.

It might not be a bad idea to do up the patterns for the various advent calendar pieces, either...

1: This is a paraphrase of a quote attributed to Genghis Khan, by the way.
