Would you want the rows in your garden to be labelled with singulars or plurals?
Singular: there's only one kind of plant there
Plural: since there's more than one plant, the label should reflect that
Don't care: as long as I can read it, the details are unimportant

Projects We Start

posted Thursday, 20 March 2008

One of the things that a lot of current computer roleplaying games advertise is that they have a realistic world in which your character "lives".

Well, someone decided to take one of these games, Oblivion, at its word.  He's playing the game as, essentially, an NPC, making his living by gathering herbs to sell, buying food and shelter, and basically avoiding adventure whenever possible.  Of course it's not always possible, because this game gives you random encounters and so forth, but he's doing his best.  Read about his non-adventures at Livin' in Oblivion.

I find this whole concept hilarious and strangely cool.  It's a very hackerly thing to do, taking a system and seeing what you can get out of it that the makers never intended.
