It's time to bail on a fic when House goes to a pharmacy--an all-night pharmacy, no less--and gets something that's "Vicodin under another name" without a prescription because he forgot how many pills he had and ran out. I mean, count the number of factual errors there. Aside from the fact that our boy would not forget how many pills he had left, if he could get Vicodin without a prescription the entire first half of Season Three would have been, well, slightly different. And you can't get narcotics of any kind without a prescription, period.
I do understand the need to change things up to make your fic work, but if all you need is to get him out of the house late at night without pills, there are much better ways to do it. Ways that aren't utterly wrong in fifteen different directions, even.
