Been spending a little more time playing Vanguard, and I'm actually having fun with it. I've gotten to level 12 in crafting, despite being only 6 in adventuring (and that only because I keep having to kill the critters that infest the local patch of fiber plants in order to harvest them)--I suppose I should advance my adventuring level at some point, if for no other reason than so I can harvest higher-level resources for myself rather than having to buy them, but for the moment I don't feel like it. I got the first area-style quest, which required going to a whole different island; I almost accidentally bound myself there, which would have been an intense pain in the neck, but I worked out what was going on in time to stop it. I don't currently have the materials to actually work on that quest--see above under "higher-level resources"--but since crafting isn't a money sink in this game I can actually
make money practicing and work towards being able to buy the stuff I need. The crafting mini-game is reasonably entertaining, even. But I really really hate one of the animations my character uses when a complication happens (complication=thing that makes it harder to finish the item being worked on): she stomps her feet and huffs in annoyance, which is fine except it's so over-the-top she looks like a toddler having a tantrum. Every time it happens I want to tell her to just calm the heck down.
