Would you want the rows in your garden to be labelled with singulars or plurals?
Singular: there's only one kind of plant there
Plural: since there's more than one plant, the label should reflect that
Don't care: as long as I can read it, the details are unimportant

Long Socks

posted Thursday, 31 August 2006

Everybody knows I've made Liam a heck of a lot of socks, right?  I think we're going on twenty pairs by now, let me think...the bright stripes, the really bright stripes, red-and-black, the multicolor, blue-and-purple; grey FI, blue-green FI, black-grey-brown FI; grey, green, blue, burgundy, tan; black, purple, light blue; two pairs in alpaca; Pansy and Succotash...I think there were a few more, but I'd have to poke through his sock drawer to be sure.

Regardless, he's not the only one in my house with feet.  Last winter I made myself two pairs of thigh-high stockings, inspired by a pattern from Handknit Holidays.  I wore them so much both pairs developed holes in fairly short order; that being the case, I think that there need to be some more this winter.  I'm thinking Andean Treasure in Woods, Embers and possibly Moss or Granite, and Ambrosia in Night Sky and Mulled Wine.  There are some colors in Elegance and Swish that I like as well, also in Gloss, but all of these would require significant reworking of the pattern I've got.  The merino-linen blend recommended in the book was quite nice, and is bearing up well under the stress of being worn so much, but I don't know as I'm going to be in the mood for another pair of off-white stockings for that amount of money.

In any case, none of this is happening till after Liam's sweater and possibly Caitlin's sweater.
