I bought two skeins of Lorna's Laces the other day, in a very bright-pastels colorway that I dearly love. I dunno what exactly I'm going to do with it--socks, yes, but go for Yet More New Pathways1 or fall back on the old reliable pattern?--but I see why people love the stuff; there are some truly fabulous color schemes available. It's a nice bog-standard 75/25 superwash, but oh, the colors! I was truly torn between three or four different ones, and ended up flipping a coin. Lorna's is not cheap, at $11 per skein and two skeins per pair, but as the yarn shop lady said, it's not just the socks; it's also the fun of knitting them.
Maybe I ought to try selling socks to rich people, for whom a $200 price tag is actually an incentive...
1: One thing I don't like about the New Pathways patterns is what the gusset does to the color pooling in varigated yarn. It's pretty bad in Essential, though that's at least partly a function of the extremely bad choice of length KP has chosen for the color sections (which has been true of every varigated yarn of theirs I've ever used, not just Essential).
