Over on Making Light they've been talking a lot about bookbinding, and then I found a collection of how-to links. And I've flirted with bookbinding a bit in the past, mostly making little-bitty books for my dolls and so forth. So yesterday I made a blank book. I sewed the signatures and everything, though the case is made of blue office paper and the boards are cut out of the backing from last year's blotter calendar. I sewed it with embroidery floss, because I had the Conan sampler with me (which I haven't touched in two days, I should get it done and photographed already).
I'm pretty sure this is how you tell you're bored at your job.
Given the tools and materials I had to work with, it came out surprisingly well. Of course I have no clue what I'm going to do with a very fragile, 4x6", 252-page hardcover book.
